MUG - Update
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For those of you who were kind enough to play-test MUG in its primitive state,
I should tell you of the changes -
New verbs: WATCH, FORCE, and WEAR (PUT ON/TAKE OFF). GLARE, GIGGLE, and SMILE
have been removed, because they were hardly ever useful. You will
find that WEARing something may be of significance when there is a
change in the weather.
JOIN can now be expensive, depending on the weight you carry.
The DEMONS command has been replaced by an entry in SCORE.
To see a list of available food, type FOOD.
Objects : Mostly re-valued and re-distributed. Now, examining an item of
room contents, e.g. a counter, will tell you what is concealed
therein.
Mobiles : Some changes - and watch out especially for what happens when you
kill the Beast. Multiple fights then become possible. This occurs
also when you solve the Bell puzzle.
Locations: Curtailing the Abbey Fields has left locations free for other
things, viz extensions to the Port, a new puzzle in the Obelisk,
gambling in the Armoury, a more interesting Abbey altar, and other
bits and bobs. Consequently, your old map will only be about 95%
accurate. Location names have also been fleshed-out, in that, for
example, Road to Port is now Road to the Port, and so on. Anywhere
underground is now dark, and you will have problems summoning and
joining there.
Asmodeus : The solution to this chained puzzle has been changed.
MUG : His verbs have been changed to COME, STAY, FOLLOW, FIND, GIMME.
The End : Having successfully completed MUG, you progress via the Land
Between the Worlds to Pumcoddle's Academy, which is a cut-down
DDL, wherein you can re-write Locations, Objects, and Mobiles, and
Room Contents, and you can cheat!
Should you wish to get there without solving MUG, then you can, by
typing LBW at the command prompt, whereupon you will be given a
passport number. Naturally, this is a temporary measure - while
this is still a beta-test version.
Also, for reasons of space, I've been obliged to shunt the function-key
changing routines into a library. If your machine shows any sign of
incompatibility with this library, I would be glad to hear about it.
Good Luck!
Jon Cole, May 1988
